Drupal Article in the November Issue of LFY - 3rd in Drupal Series
The earlier 2 articles on Drupal by Dheeraj in LFY gave enough insights on using it and setting up a Drupal site. From what i have read, the 3rd article should be more of a delight to the programmer then anybody else since it shows how Drupal can drastically cut down on the programming time.
But before everything else... I think you all should grab a copy of this month LFY... it has some really exciting articles about unconferences, Mandriva, Exciting goodies for windows apart from our article on Drupal.
I would not waste much time and go straight to the "crux" - the article is about "Content Construction Kit - (CCK)" a tool seen by many Drupalers as their "lifeline" - since any type of content can be created using CCK. CCK is actually a group of modules, primary among which is "Content module".
CCK helps in seamless addition of content without much programming effort as the built-in Architecture of Drupal makes it look easy to design 'n' number of forms. It has been one of the most powerful module and is one of the favorites among all the major Drupal sites and drupal developers across the world.
After giving a brief introduction about Drupal Directory Structure, the article goes at length to explain the User management feature of Drupal. Before going ahead with CCK, a developer has to decide on the permissions and the user management features come in handy here.
Through this feature one can 1) Create Users & 2) Assign appropriate access permissions to the user role.
The highlight of the issue i.e. CCK Module consists of some "Core CCK Modules" which includes - Text, Number, Nodereference, Userreference, Optionwidgets & Fieldgroup. The article shows how one can enable a CCK module in a website which is followed by a very interesting example of creating a "Content type" - "News Content" is an example taken up in the issue. After creating the 'Content Type' - the article discusses the process to add a field to the content type. This is followed by a small tutorial to manage the fields in the content type. By managing fields, you can actually change the order of the field.
CCK provides a number of fields that comes as default such as Text Box, Check Boxes, Data Field, Image Field, Media Field etc.
I think its better you read that article all by yourself instead of me taking you to the whole stuff. And by the way Dheeraj did a fantabulous job in putting the technical stuff in a very un-technical manner, so to say. I think anybody who has some flair of doing things on its own can actually read this stuff and get on with the CCK module.
Happy Reading...
Cheers!!!
