Ilaaka.com - Migration from Drupal V 4.7 to Drupal V 5.12
Ilaaka was a very critical assignment for Openkick since the Migration project involved tasks such as cleaning up the current code in order to fit the Drupal standards, removing hacks and creating custom modules to achieve functionalities. If a module was not available, a similar module was used to deliver the same functionality and the data was migrated to the new module. The team at Openkick was given the tasks to migrate the whole project and follow Drupal standards while making changes in order to achieve desired functionalities.
My experience with Openkick has been extremely delightful. We had the complex task of migrating our portal, www.ilaaka.com, from a 2-year old Drupal version to a current supported version. With over 20,000 nodes, Ilaaka is an Alexa Top 100K site with content being added almost daily since the last two years.
With a lot of custom hacks in the code, I was anxious by the magnitude of the task, so when we started the project I had some concerns whether any vendor would be able to pull off this complex migration in a smooth manner. As a pleasant surprise, I found the Openkick team was right on the ball since day one. They not only helped cut down time in setting things up fast, began asking the right questions, poring through the existing code, but also kept me updated regularly on their findings, the proposed approaches to solve problems, and also demoed their progress at regular intervals.
To my delight, I found Openkick’s engineers to have in-depth understanding of Drupal concepts and API, and they were able to redo our site in the recommended Drupal standards with aplomb. With robust processes setup internally and a strong Drupal engineering team and management, I was soon rest assured that our project is in good, capable and eager hands.
The final Ilaaka deployment went off without any hitches with the Openkick team providing all the necessary support, and I was left feeling very satisfied with the way the whole project shaped up, and pleased at my decision to go with Openkick. Needless to say, I would easily recommend Openkick to anyone looking to outsource their current Drupal work, or planning to start a new Drupal project. They make Drupal look easy!
